The end of my student nurse journey is in sight

Abstract

In our continuing series on the experiences of a nursing student, Jade Petchey explains what she has found most helpful during her final year as a student nurse

It recently came to my attention that, within 6 months, I will be applying for my PIN to join the Nursing and Midwifery Council register, and then I will be a newly qualified nurse. So here is an update on my final year so far, as well as some things I have learned that may also help you.

I have spoken about being kind a lot, but I think I forgot to mention that fellow students need to be kind to one another. You are all going through similar things, just at different stages. You may not be from the same university, but be kind. Teach each other. Help each other, and let each other have experiences. Can we stop trying to climb over each other on a ladder we aren't on yet?

Time seems to have disappeared for me. Now I have two assignments and two exams in about 4 months, totalling around 8500 words, a spoken exam, and several weeks for my management placement, and time seems to be disappearing. So, plan your time. Visual aids work best for me. I have a large calendar on the wall to see those due dates. I also have a list of my proposed schedule for my work. But I also ensure life is planned as well so I don't become a hermit.
